Bible Schools
BIBLE SCHOOLS The universities now known as the Ivy League, Harvard, Yale, Rutgers,
Princeton and a few others, were all founded to prepare men for the ministry.
They produced many outstanding powerful spirit baptized preachers who believed
in the whole Bible, and a God of love and forgiveness for the repentant and
hell fires for the rebellious. Those schools and those servants of God, along
with the other fundamental movements, brought the blessing of God upon America
and that country owes its special lofty place among nations to that heritage
and its continued faith in God. But the obedience to God's Word and laws is now greatly eroded in America,
as every one well knows, and the old colleges once leaders in the nation's
respect for the Bible, have since become leaders in its decadent and degenerate
moral turpitude. Such changes in institutions do not come overnight in a
philosophical revolution, but with stealth, gradually, a mistiness then turning
by ever so small degrees into utter liberal anti-Christianity. But we fundamental Bible believers are not trying to start now at this late
date a reformation of those backslidden ivy halls. They are gone. We are
dedicated here to those colleges that still have some life to see, by studying
the history of the old colleges, may be forewarned and save out present Bible
Colleges. When those other universities were considered backslidden, dedicated
servants of God opened up Bible Schools all over the U.S.. Such names as
Philadelphia Bible School and The Providence Bible College come to mind. Up
until a generation ago nearly all of their graduates went into Gospel Ministry
or Foreign Missionary work. But since then? What happened about that time?
They expanded their curriculum to include more liberal arts courses, changed
their accent in order to be given ACCREDITATION to grant Liberal Arts degrees
and "wist not that the power of God had departed from them." Now a small percentage, a very small minority, still go into the ministry
or foreign missionary work, while the main body of graduates have accredited
degrees proving they are trained to be successful in business and industry.
They are choosing the world but will deny they are dead unto Christ. Paul
testified he was dead unto the world having crucified the Old Man of self will,
but was alive unto Christ. Smaller, more recently opened Bible Schools are being tempted by that same
subtle lure of Satan, that they can have the world and Christ both; they are
turning eyes, no longer single, toward becoming accredited to give degrees. My
Christian friends, warn your Bible School friends to flee as determinedly as
Lot fleeing Sodom, and look not back with wishful eyes. Lot once pitched his
tent toward Sodom, but from then on, ever so gradually, he was drawn in. He
should have shunned the well watered plains, so attractive, but near Sodom, and
chosen the rugged mountains with Abraham even though the stony heights seemed
less promising to those wanting wealth and prosperity. Are there not good college courses beneficial to preachers, teachers and
missionaries? There are many; very good. John Wesley himself advised his
ministers to study Mathematics and other such courses. BUT--AH- there comes a
great division in the way at that point where those worldly aims want
Accredited Degrees. That means requirements, not set by Bible people, but by
the worldly Academics, those very leaders in liberal skepticism, free-thinkers,
atheists, evolutionists, free-lovers, and philosophic communists. Is it possible to have all really good academic subjects in a Bible School?
Absolutely. So far the Accrediting Associations and the U.S. government has
said they have no jurisdiction over Bible institutions which are carried on for
religious purposes, as long as they do NOT seek accreditation to grant Liberal
Arts degrees. Our Bible schools can give every good subject. Besides the Bible studies,
they can and should give History, English Composition, Foreign Languages, Math
and Science, Missionary Medicine, Agriculture, Farm Management and Animal
Husbandry; also Printing, Public Speaking and Radio Broadcasting. Also
Pedagogy including teaching of various grades in one classroom and other such
methods necessary to help in foreign Christian schools whether for native
children or "missionary kids". The Christian was the cream, the best of
everything,...all except the chains of useless accreditation. SAVE OUR BIBLE SCHOOLS. Some are at this point marching on toward that
accreditation pit and don't even know yet that their eyes are closed. Study
and pray for guidance what you might do for your nearest or dearest Bible
School. Who knows? Perhaps you have been called for just such a time as this. |
