History from a Religious Viewpoint

A little more than a hundred years ago leading minds of many Latin American countries began to study and awaken to what was to them an amazing conclusion... that enlightenment and prosperity followed the Bible.

As Christianity spread throughout the mid-east there was less suffering, less cruelty, more education and state of well being of the various peoples. Rome had the power then, but it was also the center of barbarous cruelties and decadence. Christianity began an influence to clean it up. As long as that continued Rome prospered. But then with continued excess prosperity, it began its great decline and fall, meanwhile the Christian influence moving northward in Europe.

Now look at Europe. Which are the most civilized, better educated, industrially and scientifically advanced and prosperous? Germany, Sweden, Norway, Holland and England. Every one has had an outstanding past history as places of Bible people. The very evangelicals were usually in the minority, with the population and government generally more nominal Christian than spiritual. Nevertheless they maintained the Bible ethics and ethos. Italy, Spain and the eastern European countries were very religious, but not biblical, rather anti-biblical, with their religious officials involved closely with politics and power.

France was more atheist than religious intellectually. The writers there such as Rousseau wanted to improve the welfare of the poor and curb excesses of the rich and noble, and planned ideal states which led to awful bloody revolution. Prior to this, the anti-biblical officials were either slaughtering Huguenot Protestants or driving them from the country.

About one third of the South African Boers are of French Huguenot descent. The rest, mostly Dutch, were likewise leaving Europe for religious convictions, a very Bible centered people. Of course they are not any more as spiritual and unworldly as they were originally. Still, they are a very Bible centered people. Ideally they ought to be a little more thoughtful on how to help the Blacks. But right now the wave of liberal propaganda and drum beating is hypocritical, not really against Apartheid, but a communistic atheistic plan to get rid of the Bible people, turn the country over to the Blacks who would absolutely be there if they have one man, one vote, then have Apartheid again throwing the Whites out. The Blacks are being set on fire with promises of getting a hold of the businesses, factories, mines and homes of the Whites. Historically they have been easily turned on by any messianic witch doctor, after which they would attack neighboring tribes, slaughtering each other in uncountable quantities, until the White had sufficient control to prohibit tribal slaughters.

Other countries in Africa have already been taken over by the blacks, and they have always been worse off, promptly losing their own vote to some ridiculous but cruel Id Amin, and the people kept down by repeated blood baths. No reasonable person who understands the biblical situations is confused by the problems in South Africa. It is a high powered campaign by the atheists, the World Council of Churches, the humanists and liberals, communists, to get rid of the Bible people there.

When the Reformers of Latin America, a century ago, came to realize the significance of their discovery of the relation to history between the Bible and the total well-being of their peoples, they instituted reforms in nearly all their countries which allowed the distribution and reading of the Bible which up to then had been prohibited by force and death, they limited the power of the clergy to enter into politics and government. This was carried out strongly for a few years, but later the clergies gradually worked their way into government again, and they invited Evangelical churches and missionary societies to come to these countries bringing Bibles and the Gospel.

But of course no one is forced to listen, accept the Bible and be converted. The Lord does not want that kind of converts. By free will conviction many have come to the Lord, the national percentage very small for many years. It has turned out just as the Reformers foresaw, that in proportion as the Bible spread and its Word and influence, the country would begin to have more hygiene, schools, freedom, honesty, hospitals and general prosperity. The middle class grown with the Gospel. There are setbacks every few years with guerrilla warfare, and other upheavals when the proportion of the Christians are still too small, too many very poor and the rich hold on to their unChristian avaricial attitudes.

America has been mightily favored by Almighty God because our forefathers were Bible respecting Puritans. Now the liberals use the word Puritan as the element most hated in a society. Some years ago some military men of Greece threw out the Commies and the criticism in the U.S. press most repeated was that they were too puritan, making laws against people going onto the streets wearing shorts like American women, or living together without benefit of marriage. The ungodly hate all Christian efforts and laws just as much today as when they crucified our Lord and persecuted the Apostles,

At the time of our early Puritans, Spain was much more powerful than England. The turning point was at the battle of the Spanish Armada. A storm at just the critical time gave the victory to the smaller more maneuverable British ships. Chance! Luck! Impossible. It is but one element of a series that shows God blesses His Word and the people who respect it. From that time on America could grow with its open Bible. England took the Bible to Australia, Canada, India and Africa. Merchants also went to all those places. The actions of many of those English merchants were despicable, but at least they did NOT prohibit the Bible people and their work, in fact, usually showed some respect and tempered their cruelties accordingly. When the mercenary became too powerful and the missionaries too small, God broke up the big British Empire, while America grew still more powerful.

Germany was for many years the leading country on the European continent. Hitler was not the basic cause, but rather the final indication of an older deeper ailment. Germany had been the leader for some centuries in Bible liberty and church reformation, but with pride and prosperity there began to grow a new element called Higher Criticism. It seemed very smart, very clever, to analyze the Bible action as though respect, but concluding that there was not real God, only humanism or psychology. The Germans were smart geniuses, but not wise, for wisdom means fear and love of God, in balance.

Let us pray for the defeat of the devil's wave against God's Word. America is in great danger. She will go down in a great holocaust if the immorality of the age is not checked. Instead of holding up for God, country and the sanctity of the home, the liberals want to destroy all three.
