In El Salvador
GOSPEL CAMPAIGN IN EL SALVADOR For many months God has been putting suffering El Salvador on the hearts of
many of His people. People from different countries would mention this burden
of prayer, and find that others there from still other places had the same
cause on their hearts. This was remarkable for they were also from many
different organizations and individuals without directives. It was evidently
the hand of God directing the move irrespective of denominations. Then moving
on from just praying and speaking to other individuals, they began to speak of
it, making a call for special prayer in widely separate groups so that the Holy
Spirit could move on other hearts to widen the circle of intensive care and
prayer toward that cause. Guatemala was in staging area for several reasons though many participants
were from the U.S. Guatemala had great campaigns in recent years. God had
given miraculous spectacular results in the growth of evangelical churches,
many of the converts wanted to help their neighbors in El Salvador who were
still in the throes of guerrilla warfare even as Guatemala had been some years
ago. When the spiritual tide had risen sufficiently in the sight of God, it
had checked the power of the devil controlling the devastation, which then,
though not completely stopped, had been most greatly and dramatically reduced.
Now Christians everywhere felt it was El Salvador's turn. God was working, He
was organizing, He was calling to that front. The Holy Spirit was moving and
if everyone responded with Christian devotion, love and sacrificial prayer,
there would be victory , both spiritual and on the battle fronts. Guatemala had previously obtained the use of the principal football stadium
and filled it. Now the great stadium of the capital city, San Salvador, was
obtained. The various groups and individuals began to gather together in
Guatemala for a week of fastings and prayer, uniting with other dedicated
Guatemala Christians from separate denominations, Pentecostals, Holiness,
Baptists or non-denominational independents, mostly pentecostals without
denominational strictures. There were several internationally known
evangelists and speakers. The accent would be on the message and the work
being the Holy Spirit's and not for the promotion of any individual or
organization. There would be a reliance on the directions and moving of God in
the extended times of fastings and prayers, rather than in advertising and PR
promotions, In case the results did not seem to be so great in numbers, they
would have faith it would go deeper, that God could really do what man's
cleverness could not. His deep movings began on the Christians themselves who were gathering to
take the Gospel to the unsaved. A key message was dying out to Self,
crucifying the flesh, putting to death the Old Man of sin and the carnal heart.
Some Holiness people confessed they had previously criticized Pentecostals for
not paying attention to that Bible text. They had not realized that there were
some very consecrated Pentecostals preaching that message to their fellows all
along. It is a sectarian weakness of human nature to elevate some doctrine to
hide their own lack of power with God. Then some individuals gained victories
of touching the Lord in dying out, feeling dead to self and alive only to
Christ, for the first time in their life. All God guided campaigns have that
feature of having pre-campaign prayer times of the deepening of the believers ,
for the confessing of old jealousies, enmities and prejudices, before God can
really do His wonderful work in unconverted hearts and in nations. Those pre-campaign prayer sieges are just as important as the campaign itself. groups arriving included those with great powerful stadium microphones and
amplifiers, also musicians for had been formerly stars of recording note,
playing with rock stars and Hollywood performers, not that such past is of much
importance. Now they were really on important campaigns, serving the Lord
Jesus as Lord of Lords, and more important, as their personal Savior. In the campaign itself, God fulfilled His promises. Many and almost
countless were saved, coming to know the Lord as their personal Savior where
before they had religion, believed in God but did not have Christ in their own
hearts and were torn with sin and sorrow. Before they had a dead, bleeding
figure on their wall,, now they testified that had a living Spirit within.
Christ can really live in one's heart. There were many testimonies of miracles of physical healing also as well as
the related testimonies of dedicating themselves thereafter to Him and His
cause. Now all Christians should keep praying for El Salvador and follow the
leadings of the Spirit in future efforts or campaigns. Doubtless, there must
be more before the spiritual evangelistic tide can rise sufficiently in that
country to insure also cessation of the bloodshed on the guerrilla fronts.
Guatemala had a steadily increasing series of evangelical effort for years.
God can give El Salvador a similar revival series and victory. God has
promised it if everyone will do the part God has given him. |
