"Praise the Lord! He is working in marvelous ways..."
Dear Christian Friend, Praise the Lord! He is working in marvellous ways as we
make special efforts to get out more and more of the Gospel. Not just claiming to be saved, but so many wanting to preach the Gospel.
Since I have getting the word around that we would act as the coordinating
place, more and more express their desire to be evangelists and go out and help
pastors in any way needed in campaigns. Recently when a pastor came into town to say he needed an evangelist for
some special meetings, I replied that we could gladly help him if he had let us
know in time. He planned to start the next day and communications here are
often primitive. A few of the ordinary people and folks I had in mind that
might go, have phones. What to do? So often in the past when wishing someone had a phone, I forgot that the
heavenly line is always open. As we were discussing the matter someone came
in, listened and volunteered. He was a successful business, I would not have
thought of asking him if he had not volunteered first. Also he had a car which
would simplify things, and not have the problems of someone unacquainted with
buses and routes trying to find his way out to a mountain village. But one snag-- the car road did not go all the way either, and he would
have to walk several miles on foot. No problem, he said. If St. Paul had
walked all over the mid-east in his travels, I can walk some miles joyfully, he
said, for a chance to witness to what the Lord has done for me. He is not
exactly a new convert, but rather recent and only an intense interest in Bible
study would have prepared his so soon. He did fine, I heard afterwards, the
village mountain people were delighted with his sermons. He stayed out there
for several services. With this growing evangelistic effort we can see there is great need for
preparation classes, Bible institutes for working people. The denominations
have their formal seminaries with classes for full time students and pretty
stiff tuition too. We have begun a series of Bible study classes in the
evenings, a session or two each week, in several different places. We are
actually using the churches where there are interested and willing AND trained
pastors who are also willing to give the classes. Everyone can attends, and
the very interested can besides, go to the other places on the other nights
also. There have been many who have had similar ideas and plans and felt the
necessity, so all have been working together much too marvelously for me to
imagine it is due to my organizational ability. The Lord is doing it all and
we all just work together under His coordination. I thank the Lord for the improvement in sight also. It was so slow that I
could hardly be sure, but lately by taking both strong glasses and a magnifying
lupe, I can read a bit, though it is laborious. I hear some kind people are
sending some new apparatus or invention that will make a big change in reading
facility. Thank you all for the interest and continuing prayers. The work among the orphans and poor children go on and the best part if
that is the way they are learning the ways of the Lord, and not just getting
the physical food alone. I gave a Bible story in as dramatic manner as I
could, the other evening, and the children loved it though they had heard the
story before. And then they got up and did a song that was dramatic in its way
too. There has been relative calm for a month or so in the city, but I hear
things are still sad in some mountain areas. We shall have faith the Lord will
continue the great work He has begun, for the country, spiritually for all the
new evangelists, and with me physically and well as spiritually. May the Lord
bless you and yours also, and make His face to shine upon thee. For those who do like to write letters-- I hear the mails are good and safe
here, since the last government change. Sincerely, Brother Orland |
