"Remember the old German folk tale of the Apprentice..."

THE APPRENTICE BARBER

Remember the old German folk tale of the Apprentice Barber? One day a rich noblemen demounted from his horse and entered the humble little village barbershop, to say in a haughty voice, "I will give this gold piece to any barber that can shave me without nicking me"

All the barbers looked on the gold piece with desirous eyes, more money than they could make in a year. "But if you cut me," the nobleman went on,"I'll take off your head!"

The head barber's knees trembled so he could not reply or stand and the other assistant ran from the shop. All except the apprentice boy who said, "Sit right down, sir," and proceeded to do the job without a nick.

The rich man paid the boy and asked, "How come you were not nervous like everyone else?"

The young barber answered, "If I HAD nicked you, I had a razor right there to finish the job."

Proud, haughty, godless men do not realize by how delicate a thread their life is hanging all the time without God.
