"May the Lord Jesus Christ, that great..."

Orland Wolfram

(August 20)

Dear Christian Friend,

May the Lord Jesus Christ, that great Shepherd of the sheep, make you perfect unto every good work, doing that which is well pleasing in His sight.

Many times the Bible tells us how He confounded His critics. When they asked, "From whence art Thou?" they thought they had Him in a trap. If He said from God, they called it blasphemy. If He said from man, it would annul His message. In place of answering directly, He said, "Tell me first. Was John the Baptist of God or just of man?" They whispered aside, "If we say of God, He is going to say to us, "Then why do ye not believe him?" If we say of man, the people will stone us." So they answered, "We do not know." Jesus said "Nor shall ye know the other question either." He also asked them of the Messiah, "Was He a son of David, or one to be called Lord?" The answer was and is that Jesus was both man and divine but they did not want to accept that.

Today when some learned men say they do not believe in God and religion, they are blinded by that fundamental law of human psychology, called wishful thinking. They believe what they want to believe and will not accept what they do not wish to, even though the proof is all about them.

Thank you for the extra sacrificial offerings made of late. We have been able to do a lot more than usual in sending help to the churches out in the villages and the mountains, while still keeping up the tract and evangelistic work. May the Lord answer your prayers for your own family, as you have been faithful with the tithes and perhaps other offerings made with denial and sacrifice.

An evangelist came from Venezuela to have a campaign here. He announced he was starting up some of his own places here. Ordinarily, the other denominations will not cooperate in a campaign to start up another group. I was surprised to find in this case they did. Evidently their own church buildings are packed and they figure the new group will work mostly out in the mountains. His own observation was interesting. He observed that in most Latin countries the evangelical per capita population is not great, and every new effort is needed. However, he said, in the case of Guatemala there has already been a great increase in the Lord's harvest, but since his group wished to be international, he needed Guatemala.

You can praise and thank the Lord for how he has answered your faithful prayers for us in Guatemala during the past generation. Once it was difficult and dangerous. Now is the harvest time and we are to bring in the sheaves with you, singing where once there was sowing with tears.

God's richest blessings abide over you,

Orland Wolfram
