"The Lord is using the jails to further..."

Orland Wolfram

Dear Christian Friend,

The Lord is using the jails to further His great revival in Guatemala. Every meeting we have, produces precious fruit. The folks cooped up there feel the bitterness of the world and think no one cares for them. Sermons on the love of Jesus move them.

In the women's jail, a sister came in for the meeting and gave her testimony: "I was in here some time ago. My father was a Leftist Intellectual, and I was thrown in jail without any specific charge, although I had not been active politically. Here, my bitterness festered until every day was but a continuous bitter draft. I knew nothing about God or prayer. My family had brought me up an atheist. It was here that I first began to listen to a Bible sermon and heard that God is love, and about the love of Jesus.

At first, I listened just because there was nothing else to do here. But gradually as I began to let it sink in, I noticed my anger and bitterness was eased. There was almost a Presence there in the meetings, with these same folks singing and everything. One day I went forward to really accept that personal love and asked the folks to pray for me and my situation. It was not long until I was let out of Jail. I have scarcely missed a meeting in some evangelical Bible meeting since.

I came here today to share these words with you all. God did me a loving favor to allow them to put me in jail on false or on no charges. Here I found love and peace. I found Jesus."

There are regular meetings in the men's penitentiary also. When no one comes by with a car to take me, I give another brother bus fare and tracts to go in my place. That way there are regular meetings. Various brethren go occasionally, but one brother never misses. I remarked on that some time ago, and learned that his brother was in that jail. God answered his prayers and faithfulness. That man got saved. He is now free and walking in the light. Praise the Lord!

Another testimony of a woman who had never been jailed was about when she was young. She believed happiness came from having a very good job, and being careful to marry only a fine faithful man. When she got married they not only had money enough to have a beautiful home, but her husband was just ideal. She should have been completely satisfied, but she just could not understand why she was not. Something vitally important was missing, and she did not know what it was. She began to give more money to her Catholic church and take part in various religious and charitable activities. The lack was still there.

Then her husband discovered he had heart trouble. She went through worry and finally his death. She was left with three children. For a time, she was really devastated. In just such desperate need she met people who said, "Instead of looking to religion, seek Christ himself." She did and discovered that Jesus was also seeking her. He found her and raised her up.

She wished to testify that with all their former perfection of family life and material security, she now has more peace, satisfaction and well being. She has the continual feeling of the personal love of Christ.

Yours in the bonds of love,
