Christian Education
We are instructed to have the Lord's
words in our hearts, and the Bible says, "Teach them diligently unto thy
children, and talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou
walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up."
(Deuteronomy 6:7)
The founder of the Pillar of Fire
movement, Alma White, recognized in the late nineteenth century that American
public schools would not, and indeed could not, be that which would honor
the word of Scripture by surrounding children with Christian influence,
example, and teaching during every activity of their day. A trained teacher
herself, she began to open schools where the Word of God was central. She
and the Pillar of Fire were pioneers in the Christian School movement in
the United States.
